I am not dead...I swear
Hello....I've been on the road again and here is a little update about stuff that is new. Travis and I met up with a kiwi bloke and bought a sweet 82 Holden Gemini in Brisbane. The story behind it is actually quite funny as well.
He drove up from Melbourne to Brissy, and got caught DUI so he couldn't drive anymore. He had court before he saw us and the judge told him that if he catches him driving again he's going straight to jail. So an hour later he comes put-putting along to our hostel to let us go for a test drive. We even got this militant dutch guy (with a mohawk) who is a mechanic to inspect the car and verify that it was worth 1000$. Once the test drive was complete we proceeded to the Internet cafe to print out some forms. During Mid-Print kiwi dude does a u-turn right in front of some cops, which he got pulled over for right quick. When we got out of the cafe we were kinda unsure about what happened, but the cops asked if we were the ones buying the car to which we responded yes. Anyways the dude got nervous and gave his brothers info, and since he looked nervous they checked the car. They found his court papers, so they went to go check to see if the car was stolen. He was extremely lucky because the system was down, so they just gave him a slap on the wrist and said that we had to drive back. The cops in Brissy are hilarious, we couldn't believe it. The most lack I've ever seen in my life. Travis and I were walking down the street and we saw a bunch of cops with boxes of breathalysers in them. We were curious and started talking to them. In a nut shell this is what they said.
" Ya well, you know! We're not really looking to catch anyone. They just kinda tell us to come out here so we do. I mean by hey maybe if we save a life it's worth it."
Also when we asked the cops that pulled over kiwi dude about our licencing they responded by saying
"Well hmm?! I'm not too sure, we're not too up to date with all the licencing" Anyways the car is hysterical, it's full name is Sir Judwick Tatum, but we call it Jud for short. We brought the price down to 900$, and it's even equipped with a new cd player. We got yellow duct tape and wrote Jud tour 07 on it, along with #1 on the roof of the car.
Since last Saturday we drove up north to a small town called Bundaberg. I'm not too sure if there is Bundaberg rum in Canada, and if there is I never would have noticed. However if there is all the rum comes from this little town (pop 40,500). (Bundaberg rum has a very distinctive taste, and I suppose it's alright, eventually we'll make to the distillery tours I reckon.
Before our departure we bonded with two fellows by the names of Trin, and Will. Both fun, cool guys with lots of character. Trin is an Aussie from Melbourne with really crazy interesting tattoos, and everything he does is really quite interesting and amusing. Will is an English fellow from Kent. He's really cool as well, and is the responsible one of the group. Kinda like the ninja turtles. I would say that Travis would be Michealango, Trin would be Raphael, Will would be Leonardo. Since I'm a girl I'll say I'll be a mix between Donatello and April O'neil (and Splinter because I am kinda maturnal and such)
Along the way we stopped @ Rainbow beach and built the worlds greatest sand castle, and stayed in Harvey Bay for the night. The swimming was amazing. It was so nice to actually swim and not get knocked over by waves constantly and dodge surfers.
We arrived in Bundaberg yesterday around 2:30ish in the afternoon. Bundaberg is a real interesting town and so far I have enjoyed my stay. We booked a week at a working hostel called Cell Block. It's actually an old Police Station that they converted into a hostel. It's pretty cool though, everyone that lives there is either Canadian, German, or English. The Germans in the hostel are so hard not to laugh at because they are soooo German. Some carry little fanny packs around thier waist, and have that typical German smile. It's quite darling though, thier nice people, maybe the one guy will share his rod with us. The Cell Block hostel the most quiet hostel I've been at too. This is because everyone works through the hostel, and is in money saving mode. This was the reasoning for our destination of course to begin with.
To pick lemons and make some cash
The cash pretty alright once you get good as well. 120$ per bin and you can work in groups so the real good pickers can make 200+ a day. I've been doing my push-ups every day and trying to build my arms and such. Everyone says fruit picking is the hardest...But I also think it will build character and then at least I can say I picked lemons in Bundaberg. Anyways I will update you as this falls into place.
There is a nice river outside our hostel where some of the back packers go fishing. Tonight we aspire to go fishing, along with having a kick-ass bbq. I met some of the people in the hostel and their all pretty cool. Anyways I'll leave it @ that and just post a lot of pictures to update you...*mwah*
Love
Chrissy
